Embedded images not showing on report when use jump to url option

Hi, as many others here in this group I have some trouble using RS
2000 and the options "Jump to report" or "jump to url". I have two
report and I want to jump from report1 to report2. For that I can use
to options either "Jump to report" or "Jump to url". I can jump from
report1 to report2. On report2 I have a link which takes me back to
report1. But when I click this link the parametersection of report1 is
not showing. Of course I can use the down arrow at the top right
corner, but I want it to show immediately. When I use the option "Jump
to report" from report2 to go to report1 I have limited access over
the navigation (it renders with extra parameters, one of them is
rc:Parameters=Collapsed). When I use this option, I have the problem
of the hidden parametersection when navigating back to report1 using
the link on report2. However when I use "jump to url", so I can build
my own url to jump to report1 from the link on report2, the problem is
that when I click the link in report2 to go back to report1 all the
embedded images on report1 show a red cross. I can repeatedly
reproduce this behavior. The strange thing is when I copy paste the
url in a new browser, the problem isn't there, so the url is ok. I
have searched the I-net for two days now, but I haven't found anybody
who has the same problem. My guess is, that this is just on other bug
in RS 2000 unless someone has seen this before and has some sort of
solution.
Any help would be appreciated.Instead of embedding try "Project option" so that the image is available
always...

However Ruud Boots from sqlpass.nl gave me a suggestion which is
working for me. He suggested adding
rs:number=+random
to the url. This option generated a new random number for the page,
which causes the page to reload. As far a I can tell at this moment it
is working. That means I haven't had the error I mentioned in my first
post.

e-mail delivery to Dsitribution Group in AD fails

Hi
I have some unusual problem with e-mail delivery of reports.
I need sheduling subscription to daily report for all workers of our
company. All these people are members of distribution group in AD named "All
workers".
I've made subscription and typed in "TO:" field valid e-mail address of the
distributoin group: allworkers@.mydomain.com.
The e-mail message with report was succesifully send from Report Server but
it did not received by workers. Auto-reply from Exchage Server is "You don't
have sufficient permissions for sending e-mail to this e-mail address".
I cannot solve this problem. Please, help.
Additional symptoms: a) Message with report is succesifully delivered when I
put in "TO:" field direct e-mail addresses of one or several workers. Problem
occurs only with distribution goup. b) In Exchange server there are no
restrictions for sending mails to this group. Everyone can send e-mail
messages to "All Workes" group (I checked this in AD). c) Report Server
service is running under domain user account. When I sending e-mail from this
account to "All workers group" by means of Outlook CLient, evetything is ok.
I cannot put all e-mail addresses into "TO:" field as we have 300 workers :-)

But now the problem has (may be tempory) solved. I'm sending mails from RS
to the one of users and then i'm redirecting mails to distribution group.

Email Deleivery

Hi,
I am using Emai Delievery Subscription feature of MSRS 2000. I have a
requirement where I can use different "From" address for Different group of
reports. Currently as I know there is only one from Adress I can use through
the RSReportServer.config file. I tried making a copy of the "Report Server
Email" delievery extension(with different From Adress) within the config
file and renaming it to "Report Server Email2" hoping that it will give me
one more drop down item with extension "Report Server Email2" in the
subscription window but it doesnt. Looks like the Extension Name is critical.
Is there a easy way to achieve this requirement . I am just avoiding to
write my own custom deleivery estension.
I just need to have different "from" adress for my different reports.
for eg SalesReports from :SalesAdmin@.MyCompany.com
and MarketingReports from :MarketingAdmin@.Mycompany.com.

what's the criteria that determines which address to use? why do you
need multiple addresses?
I am afraid that, from what you've expressed so far, you're gonna need
a custom email delivery extension. You can easily write that since
you're just gonna extend the existing extension, then add an extra
config file where you can setup the different email accounts, and roll
some code to look up the correct email address based on a specified
criteria (such as the report name, or folder, etc.).

Efficiency of a ''SELECT TOP'' style GROUP BY query: FREETEXT vs. FREETEXTTABLE

Hi,

Please have a look at the following two queries, the purpose of which is to find which ten users (represented by 'Username') have created the most records which contain the term 'foo':

SELECT TOP 10 Username, COUNT(*) AS [Count] FROM Options

WHERE FREETEXT(*, 'foo')

GROUP BY Username

ORDER BY [Count] DESC

SELECT TOP 10 Username, COUNT(*) AS [Count] FROM Options

JOIN FREETEXTTABLE (Options, *, 'foo', 500) ct

ON OptionID = ct.[KEY]

GROUP BY Username

ORDER BY [Count] DESC

They both produce the same result set. However, I am wondering which is more performant. At first glance, it would seem the first one would be. It doesn't involve a JOIN and should, therefore, be more efficient.

But this depends on how the FREETEXT expression is evaluated. My concern is that internally, SQL Server would generate an entire recordset based on 'WHERE FREETEXT(*, 'foo')', which could be thousands of records, and only then restrict this to the TOP 10 by COUNT.

If this does happen, then it would be better to join to a FREETEXTTABLE, where I can at least restrict the result set using the 'top_n_by_rank' parameter (which is set as '500' in this case, as this seems a good balance of performance against the likely number of duplicates I will get in my FREETEXTTABLE results).

So... I am worrying about this unnecessarily? Should I just use the simpler first version?

They are almost identical. Implicitly when you do freetext(*,'foo') the system will convert it to a join based on the key. That means the first query will be implicitly converted to:

group by username

order by [count] desc

which is obviously not as efficient as the second query. However, the result between the two will also differ. For the first query, you're doing the join, group by, and then select the top N. The second you limit the first 500 from FTS query before doing the join, group by, and then select top N. So, you've been lucky thus far because the top 500 returned by the FTS contain the top desired 10 for your second query.

Thanks very much - that is exactly the info I was looking for.

I chose '500' as the top_n_by_rank parameter based on a calculation that, having considered all the other factors in the project I am working on, I am likely to get at least 10 results in the second query in the vast majority of cases.

Effective Permissions Error with Domain User

If I create a new Login at the server level for a domain group :i.e.,
MyDomain\Domain Users
Then I go add a user tied into this new Login to my database i.e., Northwind
or pubs to add a user tied to this login.
Why is it then when I go to Database Properties -> Permissions and select
Effective Permissions on this new user I get the following error:

Cannot show requested dialog.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch.
(Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo)
Cannot execute as the server principal because the principal "EGUIRES\Domain

do not have permission. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 15406)

When I run the following:
EXECUTE AS USER = 'MYDOMAIN\Domain Users';
I get the error:
Msg 15517, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Cannot execute as the database principal because the principal
"MYDOMAIN\Domain Users" does not exist, this type of principal cannot be
impersonated, or you do not have permission.
But if I run:

It works fine.
This leads me to believe it is some sort of permissions issue.

I tried tp reproduce the problem on my worstation SQL Server 2005 (Dev
Edition)
1) Restore a database from SQL Server 2000 which had an user called 'John'
(I changed compatibility level to 90)
2) Create a new Login 'NewJohn' and granted him an access to the database
(non sysadmin)
3) Right Click on the database --Properties --Permissions ( I sow
'John' user along with'NewJohn' )
4) Click on Effective Permissions ( I got the same error)
5) Click on Remove button and removed 'John' user
6) Click on Effective Permissions again and now it working
I think it is because that user "John" was transfered as a database user
(orphaned) without mapping to any login on the new server
MS has provided two stored procedures to move the logins with their original
SID but it worked fime on SS2K and I have not tried yet on SS2005

Execute as User. So this tells me I will never be able to get the effective
permissions for a group
through the SQL Workbench tool which is fine I suppose. I had an additional
problem in that I had
my service account was set to local and needed to set it to a domain user
with appropriate rights. Without that my Execute as user fails since it
cannot resolve the user in my domain.

When I click on the properties of a 2005 sql server database and then
permissions.
If I select a group and then effective permission, I got an error,
saying that "cannot execute as the principal server because the 'xxx
\group' does not exist, this type of principal cannot be impersonated,

I guess the error is valid, since the group does not exist in the
database as a user. If so, how do I get the effective permissions of a

I would think the easiest would be to take a user which is a member of that
group, but I was not able to get that to work. Or more precisely, I was
not able to impersonate as such a user.

You can always look directly into sys.database_permissions, but I don't
really know this information is exposed. In SQL 2005 you can grant a
principal a permission on a schema, which then applies to all objects
in that schema. But I don't think there is a row for every object in
the schema, but I have not investigated this.
