Embedding SQL Server Express in the installer

Can we embed the SQL Server Express in the windows installer jsut like the XML files or the Ms access database? You are referring to the windows installer in VS 2005 I suppose ??
It is not possible in the installer of VS 2003, but I suppose it can be done with Whidbey ... I haven't tried it yet though ...|||The following information may provide clarification regarding the same;

Can I redistribute SQL Express?

Embedded Reports

hi,
do i have access to subreports '
for example: how many rows were created?
a have a tablerow with a sub report.
i want to set the visibility to hidden, if no rows were created in the
subreport...
regards
PatrickThe parent report doesn't have access to properties of the subreport.
You may want to consider setting the NoRows property on the subreport
control in the master report.
Or make the subreport control in the master report very small and then have
the subreport hide its own contents if there are no rows of data.
As a last resort, you could put a query in the master report that returns a
count of the rows of the subreport (or if you're calling the subreport
inside of a list, you would include the count as a column in your master
query) and then base the visibility on that count.

Embedded images aren't showed

Hi,
When I access the Product Catalog of SampleReports in ReportServer
using the server name in the URL, that is,
http://MY_SERVER_NAME/ReportServer?/SampleReports/Product Catalog, I
can't see any images embedded in the report, I get a red "X" instead.
But when I access the same URL using LOCALHOST, once I'm using IE in
the server directly, I can see all images embedded.
My environment is RS SP1, IE 6.0.2900.2180 and WinXP SP2.
I don't think it's a problem with the Security or Privacy
configuration of IE because both LOCALHOST and MY_SERVER_NAME are in
Local Intranet Zone wich has Low Security. Besides, I've tried to
reduced the Privacy to "Accept All Cockies" as well, though anything
seems to help.
I'd rather keep the images embedded than put them into the database or
in a External link.
What else should I try?
Thanks in advance,
Vinicius BellinoYou might try uploading the image to the same folder in Report Server
that the report file resides in. You can then set the image's property to
'Hide in list view' so that users only see the hyperlink for the report
and not the image file as well.

Embed SQL statement in another SQL statement

Suppose I have an MS access database with query1 and query2. Query2 uses
query1 something like this:

Select table.* from (table left join query1 on field1=field2)

Now I want to make a change in query1 to change the behaviour of query2. But
this cannot be done in a live environment because I have to shut down the
application, make the change in the database and start the application
again. What I can do is make a query 3 in my application (instead of in the
database) that is initially does the same as query2 like this:

Select table.* from (table left join -->some SQL code to embed query1<-- on
field1=field2)

Once I know how to do this, I can change the "embedded" sql code to my
needs.

Question is: how do I "embed" SQL code in another statement?"John Kenickney" <spam.trap@.bigfoot.com> wrote in message news:<b0909e7389d49cec0cf4ddf5330bce77@.news.teranews.com >...

You should probably post this in an Access forum to get a better response.

Emailing a report from a URL

Hi there,
Is it possible to email a report through the URL access method? For example,
can the URL
http://server/reportserver?reportname&rs:Format=PDF&rs:Command=Render include
a parameter such as rs:EmailTo=someone@.something.com?
Or is trying to achieve this goal a lot more involved than simply including
a parameter in a URL - such as developing a custom rendering or delivery
extension?
Many thanks
Adam AingerNo it is not possible to do this via the url. I guess in theory you could
write a rendering extension that could do this but it would be very
involved.

EM Deny Registration

How can one deny registration of a particular SQL Server
through Enterprise Manager and still be able to open a
query analyzer and access the target database of that
particular server (read only)? My problem is some users
had a green light from above to have an Enterprise
Manager installed on their server but yet have very
little experience navigating it. I am afraid if they
registered this particular server and accidentally open a
table (all rows). I can not deny them access completely
since they need to have read access from the database.Hi,
You cant restrict EM alone. If the user have access then they will be able
to register in EM.
Thanks

You can restict permissions to do any operations per database. Let me say if
the user has not permissions to operate with a database XXX ,so he will not
be able to get in vs EM.

Thanks for your response.
I resolved the issue.
What happen I deleted my default database. And all the users for the SQL
Server had that database as default. So every program (EM,QA) that uses
default database in order to operate was throwing errors that they can't
login to the server.
So I decided to create database project in VS that uses specifies database
for login and not default and changed default database for all the users.
Thanks again.

EM access error when DB name is a GUID

I am receiving a connection error when I use EM to try to
open a table is my database. I am connecting to SQL Server
as a SA user. I don't have any access errors if I use
Query Analyzer. The problem occurs trying to access tables
in a database that has a GUID for the database name
{910216B1-6186-4F13-A626-D1D4D811F3B1} The brackets are
part of the name. Any GUID name will fail. All other EM
functions work correctly. EM works correctly for all non-
GUID named databases.
The error message is "Connection failed: SQLState '08004'
SQL Server Error: 4060 Server rejected the connection;
Access to selected database has been denied.
I am running SQL Server 2000, version 8.00.818 on a

happens on a Windows XP Pro system running SQL Server 2000

Since the name you are using contains invalid characters, it must be
delimited. I'm guessing that SQL EM is not putting brackets around the
name to get past this.

Editing Table in SQL Server from Access 2002

Hi,
I am posting this message in the hope that somebody will be able to assist me.
I have a user who has the following setup:
We have a server running SQL Server 2000 SP3 (version 8.00.818) running on Windows 2000 Server SP3 and this server has a database which the user used to access and edit using his locally installed copy of Access 2002.
We have recently transfered this database to this server using the DTS wizard, which successfully moved the database. I have now configured a System DSN on the user's PC to connect to this database using SQL authentication and the user can successfully c
onnect to this database, as the DSN has demonstrated. The user has created an Access database and has links to each of the tables in the SQL database, using the 'Get External Data' component, selecting the System DSN as the connection object. The user i
s able to open the tables in Access, but he is unable to edit the data.
When this database was hosted on the previous SQL server, the user was able to edit the data in the tables. On the previous server, this user's Windows user account was a member of the local Administratos group on the server, but this database used SQL a
uthentication. To increase the security on this database, it was moved to the new SQL server, where the user's Windows account is not a member of the local Administrators group.
I have managed to replicate this on my PC, where I have an installation of Access 2003, but I have been specifiying that the database files should either be '2000' or '2002 or 2003' version. I have used SQL and Windows authentication and I in both config
urations I am unable to edit any of the tables in Access. I have given my SQL or Windows account the 'Select', 'Update', 'Delete' permissions on the table - but this has not worked at all. Does anybody have any ideas?
Many thanks in advance.
Neil
If you've verified that it's not a permissions issue, then does the
table have a primary key or unique index?

able to edit the data in the tables. On the previous server, this user's
Windows user account was a member of the local Administratos group on the
server, but this database used SQL authentication. To increase the security
on this database, it was moved to the new SQL server, where the user's

of Access 2003, but I have been specifiying that the database files should
either be '2000' or '2002 or 2003' version. I have used SQL and Windows
authentication and I in both configurations I am unable to edit any of the
tables in Access. I have given my SQL or Windows account the 'Select',
'Update', 'Delete' permissions on the table - but this has not worked at
all. Does anybody have any ideas?

|||I think understanding databases is going to be necessary in order for
you to succeed in your work with Access and SQL Server. I'd highly
recmmend Mike Hernandez book, Database Design for Mere Mortals, which
explains the basic concepts in an easy-to-understand way. Anyway, a
primary key or unique index uniquely identifies each row so that the
server knows which one to update. If you don't know what they are,
then you probably don't have one defined on the SQLS table. Access
will refuse to update a SQLS table that doesn't have a PK or unique
index.
