Embedded 2000 Package Question/Issue

Hi All,

I am facing with a very intersting question here.

I have an embedded DTS 2000 package inside my SSIS 2005 Package. This DTS 2000 package just execute a transfer from a DB2 server to the 2005 server. Its a very simple transfer, without any transformation ( just column to column ).

Well, when I edit the DTS 2000 and save it, the package size increases about 100/200kb. It sounds like the package version ( the same as we have in the 2000 environment ). But i dont know how deactivate this "auto-increase".

Anyone can help me with this auto-increase? or just explain me what is happening?

Today I have packages with 9mb and just 3 or 4 embedded DTS 2000 packages inside.

Thanks in advance.

Thiago

Hello All,

Any answer?

After 3 months migrating DTS packages to SSIS packages we have some packages with 16mb of size. The SSIS packages which has incorporated 2000 packages, increase size every time we change anything on the 2000 package.

We are considering redesign those packages but we want to make sure that we are not missing any configuration.

Thanks for your attention.

Regards,

Thiago

|||DTS 2000 keeps every version you've saved, so it keeps growing each time. Unfortunately, unlike Enterprise Manager in SQL 2000, SSIS provides no easy way to manage the versions and cleanup the old versions. I've opened a bug for this issue in product defect database.

As a (long) workaround, you may save the DTS package as a file (right click the DTS designer surface, select Save As - this will save the latest version only), then switching the task to use this file instead of embedded package, finally use "load DTS 2000 package internally" in task editor. This way you'll get rid of all the old versions of DTS 2000 package.

Embed ASP page INSIDE my report

I would like to embed an .ASP page INSIDE my report...
I know I can add images inside through URL. But can add an asp page?
Can I do that with custom assembly?
If not, what version of reporting services would allow us to do so.
ThanksNo way I know of doing this. People have asked to be able to embed other
controls in a report which we'll look at doing but nothing concrete right
now.
This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.

email addresses

Is there a way inside the subscription to hide the email addresses. I have
a report that I need sent out to about 20 people but I dont want them to be
able to view one anothers addresses. And I would rather not create 20
different subscriptions. ThanksIn the Report Delivery Options can you email the report to yourself, then
add everyone else under Bcc?

Eliminate duplicates from datasource

Hi All,

I have a SP, which i run inside a for loop.

I am running the SP for all the products in a listbox.

So for each product i am having the feature extracted through the SP

But some features are the same for 2, 3 products.

So in the datatable, i am getting the featrues repeated.

IS there any way to eliminate the duplicates from datatable, from server side?

Hope i am not confusing.

Eg: product1 -- test1, test2, test3

product2 -- test2, test4

so the datatable has -- test1, test2, test3, test2, test4

-- i have to eliminate one test2 from this.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Can you just use a SELECT DISTINCT in your stored procedure or whatever you generate your datatable from?

Efficiency problems using PRINT in CURSORs

Hi,
I'm having a CURSOR running through ~45000 entries in a table. If I, for
example, use PRINT inside the cursor, can that be a performance hit? Are
there other performance things to think about when using cursors?
Thanks,
Mats-LennartCursors in general are not recommended. If you could discuss more about why
you are using cursors there could be alternate solutions that this newsgroup
can provide you with.

I know that it's not recommended, but in this case there is no other
(managable) solution. There is also no time for a redesign, so this is the
solution that will be used. However, I still wonder:
Can a lot of PRINTs be a performance problem? Are there other things that
can decrease performance, like user defined functions?
Thanks,

Of course. I don't know why you would use PRINT in a production system
however. PRINT is typically just debug code or for ad hoc stuff. Does
it matter if it's too late to change anyway? If performance is your
concern then PRINT may be insignificant next to the overhead of using a
cursor.

Generally speaking the more you do in a cursor loop the more processing
is required. One reason to prefer set-based solutions rather than
cursors is that the same isn't always true in declarative code -
performance doesn't necessarily degrade in line with complexity.

Whenever possible please post enough code to reproduce your problem.
Including CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements usually helps.
State what version of SQL Server you are using and specify the content
of any error messages.

--|||Hi,
I have no intentions in having a lot of PRINTs in our production system, why
I'm wondering is simply because of curiosity. Can I expect a performance
boost when going into production without PRINT's compared to now, when I'm
in development? Are there other things to do to improve efficiency? These
are questions I'm interested in. I want to learn from my mistakes to improve
my future projects :)
Why I'm using CURSORs in this project is because we are converting data from
one database into another. Unfortunately, the original data is not
consistent and needs to be checked before being converted. Of course there
are other solutions than using CURSORs, but this seemed to be the most
straightforward way.
Instead of looping through 50000 entries, can it be more efficient to run
through 5000 at a time, opening and closening the cursor in between? Could
this reduce some "overhead" costs?
Thanks for replying,
