email subscription to hotmail?

Hello...

I have a Virtual PC running SSRS 2005. I keep getting the following error when I try to specify my hotmail account as the To line in the email subscription:

"The e-mail address of one or more recipients is not valid."

I am trying to set it up such that I can send email subscriptions to my hotmail account, or at least let the SMTP Service accept these emails. I don't necesarily need to have these emails delivered, but I would like them to at least be accepted by the SMTP Service. I have added the following to my rsreportserver.config file:

<PermittedHosts>
<HostName>hotmail.com</HostName>
</PermittedHosts>

I am sure I need to configure the IIS SMTP Server settings somehow, does anyone know how to configure my local SMTP Service to allow @.hotmail.com email addresses to be placed into the "Drop" folder?

TIA

All,

After reading through some more posts online (searching through Google groups, yes Google groups MS folks!!!) I found what I needed to do. In fact, what I found does a lot more than I needed to do, it actually sends the email to the external account.

This is NOT a Reporting Services configuration issue. This is an SMTP Service configuration issue (as I suspected). Here is what I did. This may or may not be the "correct" way to do things, but it certainly works for my test environment (Note that this configuration probably shouldn't be used in a production enviornment!!!):

1. Open IIS Manager and right-click the "Default SMTP Virtual Server" and select "Properties".

2. On the Properties dialog, select the Access tab.

3. From the Access tab, click the "Relay..." button (near the bottom of the tab).

4. From the Relay Restrictions dialog, select the "All except the list below" option. Ensure that the "Allow all computers which successfully authenticate to relay, regardless of the list above" checkbox is checked.

5. Click OK on the Relay Restrictions dialog.

6. Click OK on the "Default SMTP Virtual Server Properties" dialog.

7. Stop, then Start the SMTP Service.

8. Setup your email subscription with your external email account and let it run.

Again, this worked for my development\test environment, but you should probably investigate further if you want to use this in a production environment as I am sure that setting up your SMTP Service for relay in this way probably opens it up to all sorts of attacks (like SPAM).

Hope that this helps others experiencing the same/similar issue!!

Also:

9. I got rid of the items I added to the PermittedHosts element, this way I am not restricted to which domains I sent to. Obviously in a production enviornment you would not want to do this.

EM Taskpad Error

In the EM, when selecting a few databases I receive an error dialog offering
to debug.
Error Runtime, Line 306, Unspecified
Canceling shows the taskpad view w/out any info.
Any reasons or clues how to repair?
TIA
Sorry, I found my ans. Right-click on the db name, select |View choose
anything except taskpad, then repeat, choose taskpad this time... all is
much better.

That is the only way I know of to fix it for a little while anyway.

eliminate duplicate results

Hi,

Here is a brief description of a problem I'm currently experiencing:

We have a phone line that employees can call to report their status. There is no limit on how often they can call. Each time a call is completed a record is inserted into a table with the following info: the employees unique id, theire current status, and the location of an audio file should they have chosen to leave a message. When I query this table I'd like to only return the most recent call for each employee, disregarding all the rest.

So...

When I do a simple query like:

SELECT MAX(DISTINCT r.ircDateStamp),
r.entityId
FROM tblInboundRollCall r
WHERE (r.ircLineId = 13) AND (r.ircDateStamp BETWEEN startDate AND endDate)
GROUP BY r.entityId

I get only one record, the most recent one, for each employee who has called. However as soon as I try to get another field I get one record for each different value in that field.

a second query:

SELECT MAX(DISTINCT r.ircDateStamp),
r.entityId,
r.ircStatus
FROM tblInboundRollCall r
WHERE (r.ircLineId = 13) AND (r.ircDateStamp BETWEEN startDate AND endDate)
GROUP BY r.entityId, r.ircStatus

This returns one record for each status value that each employee has.

I guess my question is how do I retrieve all of the fields in a record with the most recent date for each unique employee.

Thanks for the help.Read this thread

http://www.sqlteam.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=31147

And change MIN to MAX|||Thanks for the quick reply.

Which post in that thread am I looking at?|||Just got it working. With a little tweaking of the second last post in the linked thread everything is perfect

Thanks Brett!

Eliminate a table

I want to eliminate a table but this it marks the message to me:
Server: Msg 3724, Level 16, State 2, Line 1
Cannot drop the table 'NOM_TABLE' because it is being used for replication.
This pertenecia to one, but no longer exists the replication, now which I want to eliminate it leaves to me in error, already tries many things but I cannot even eliminate it, I want to think that the SQL I leave to this table with some estatus on the replication that pertenecia, but as I can eliminate it, some reference.
bye
try
sp_removedbreplication <dbname>
if that doesn't work try
Exec sp_configure 'allow updates', 1
Reconfigure With Override
go
update sysobjects set replinfo = 0 where replinfo <> 0
go
Exec sp_configure 'allow updates', 0
Reconfigure With Override
go

Editing the subject line for email subscriptions

Is there a way to get the subject line to report the values of parameters?
For example, "Report Date Range is {start date param} to {end date param}"Hi !
This can easily be achived by adding a reference in the sql string for the
subscription. Example for the parameter Product_Name:
Product_Name AS Subject
In the sample below the YearLastMonth, ForrigeMnd and FileName would be
selectable to the subject field as well..
Sample SQL Select:
SELECT Butikk_id_Parent, Produkt_id, Produkt_navn,
YEAR(DATEADD(m, - 1, GETDATE())) AS YearLastMonth,
ForrigeMnd as Mnd,
'Butikk' + CAST(Butikk_id_Parent AS VARCHAR) + '_' + CAST(Produkt_id AS
VARCHAR) AS FileName
FROM dbo.MAN_RPT_ButikkInfo_V
WHERE (EMail IS NULL)

set up page in Report manager? I want to use a parameter value the same way
the global values are used.

You don't have access to the actual Parameter values, you would need to have
those values in a database table that you read during the execution of the
Data Driven subscription.

let's say i have set a data driven subs. that returns all the email
addresses i want to send to something like:
select email,name,accountName from subscribers
where subscribe=1
how do i insert the field accountName into the subject of this mail?
how do i refer to the recordset field in the subject field?
pls show a simple example.

the field you are selecting from the table in your subscription query if you
want to display it in the subject line. When you edit the page for "special
delivery extension settings" in the data driven subscription you will want to
change the 'subject' to select "Get the value from the dataabase" click on
the dropdown and select the field you want to display.
Hope this hleps!
