emails reside in Inbox?
I'm working on MS SqL 2K
and I have installed MS Outlook.
I've configured the SQL Mail and SQL Agent Mail.
when I use the xp_sendmail, the emails reside in the Inbox of the Outlook
and are not sent to the right recipients, so I should re-send them from
Outlook.
I'm missing something for sure, what is it?
thanks in advance.
joujHi
Your emails should be sent, but at a guess your are using Outlook 2002 or
later in which case it has to be running on the server see
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;263556
The easiest solution is to install Outlook 2000 or use xpsmtp

service account that SQL Server runs under, open outlook and
do not close outlook and do not log out.
If you still have problems, you should switch to Outlook
2000 as there are many issues with using Outlook 2002 or
higher with a non-Exchange mail server. If you loose
connectivity to your Pop3 mail server, even briefly, you can
also have problems.
The solution with the least amount of headaches is to not
use SQL Mail but to use SMTP mail instead. You can find more
information and download an extended stored procedure for
smtp mail at:

Emailing Report
I need to export a view into excel and mail to my manager daily morning. Is there a way i can automate this process. I know how to convert view to excel but i need a better solution to automate this process with emailing to my mgr. Please suggest a better approach of doing this.
Thanks,
The send mail task accepts the use of file attachments. You are using SSIS, right?|||Or you might want to consider Reporting Services for this.|||
Thats true but how; Firstly i need to convert view to excel and then send excel sheet as attachment in email. Could you pls. explain how i could do this. I am a newbie.
Thanks
|||If you are going to use SSIS, create a new package, add a data flow task with an OLEDB source that retrieves the view. Add an Excel destination to the data flow to capture the results. Back in the control flow, add a Send Mail task to send the email.
If you want to do it in Reporting Services, post your question in the RS forum (http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowForum.aspx?ForumID=82&SiteID=1) and I'll answer it there.
Emailing from MS SQL
I would like to set up a job to send mail out to clients on a semi-regular basis. Is there a way to mail directly from MS SQL.
or some application which I can set to interface with MS SQL and send these mails out.
I'm currently using asp.net, however, doing it through the web is very time consuming, I would much rather use some application to generate the mails on the server as it currently takes close to 20 min to send through the web interface (and that's only to 900 members, we are looking at having at least 2000 members in a few weeks). What am I looking for is something I can call perhaps with transact sql so I can run it through an ms sql server job, however any solution you have would be fantastic.
If you don't have specific details, that's fine, I'm not even sure what apps etc to look into, even a name of some technology to use (or does MS SQL have a way of doing all of this itself?)
Thanks a lot for your help, life saver ;-)have you looked at xp_sendmail in the bol??|||lol, arg, it's always something simple.
Awesome, that looks pretty much like example what I want.
Thanks a lot mate ;-)|||So worries, hope it works out for you. I have often wanted to use it but due to server setup and network admins being what they are it's never happened... :(|||it's pretty simple to set up SQLMail
the trick is to get the SQL Server agent a domain user account to use as a startup account. then just set up a user mail profile by logging in as that user account. and opening your client (Isuggest outlook 98 or newer)
it will work with any MAPI1 compatible mail server even so even lotus notes...|||KBA (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=263556) to configure the SQLMail.|||even so even so even so even so
sorry i was stuck in the inner groove of sgt pepper|||Hey,
I've had a few weeks on another project, and I'm back onto this job again (um, yay?, lol).
Anyway, I have had a look over the KBA link Satya posted. I am unsure if this will solve my problem, so, here are some more details about my situation.
I have a dedicated webserver at Cradle (an internet hosting company in australia).
My machine is isolated from the other machines (I'm not 100% sure about this, but it 'seems' to be the case).
They have a mail server which is something like: host1.xxxxxx.com.au. I need to send my mail through this.
The mail I send, I also need to be able to control the <From> field.
As the user who sends the mail, needs to be the user who the message is <From>, the stuff I've read in the KBA seems to send the mail through a single mail account (correct me if I'm wrong).
Also, I don't have access to Outlook on that machine. Is there some free tool etc I can install, or will I need to ship an old copy of outlook to the server for them to install for me?
Thanks, I'll head back to the KBA and keep reading now, see if I can't try and answer my own questions (fingers crossed)|||If you don't wish to set up SQL Server with a domain account or if you don't wish to use Outlook/Exchange, there are alternatives. I use a stored procedure that just needs a SMTP server to relay mail through that I found here:
http://www.sqlservercentral.com/scripts/contributions/510.asp
You'll have to register with the site to get the script, but it's well worth it. Their script library is VERY impressive.

IIS has its own SMTP server, so yes, I guess it is compatible. However, you
do not have to have SMTP running on the same server as SQL Server, in fact I
recommend it be separate.

If the SMTP server is invalid, because it will not be able to find that server at all, it wont throw any error for opening the connection I agree. But since its not able to find the server specified in the connection manager, it should throw the error for this right?

When I set it up to point to a server that doesn't exist, I get an error message: "[Send Mail Task] Error: An error occurred with the following error message: "Failure sending mail.". "
So if the OP above didn't get an error message and the task succeeded, then it must've been a valid SMTP server, just not the correct one.|||

Perhaps it's getting caught up in a spam filter. Or the SMTP server isn't letting that e-mail through. Have you talked to the server admin?|||

If the SMTP server is invalid, because it will not be able to find that server at all, it wont throw any error for opening the connection I agree. But since its not able to find the server specified in the connection manager, it should throw the error for this right?
Thanks

When I set it up to point to a server that doesn't exist, I get an error message: "[Send Mail Task] Error: An error occurred with the following error message: "Failure sending mail.". "
So if the OP above didn't get an error message and the task succeeded, then it must've been a valid SMTP server, just not the correct one.|||
An added question: Since the mail task is directly bind with the SMTP I can send emails from anonymous email as the "from email id". Is this an issue in my server configuration or in SSIS "send task"?
Email Subscription Problem
I have an install of Reporting Services which when trying to send an email based subscription, returns the following error;

No errors are shown in the RS logs or the events logs.
Does anybody have any ideas what could be causing this?
I don't know what version you are using but when it first came out it was hard for most people to install it but I did not get a hard time because I ignored all Windows questions. So I remember it asking for Exchange server you will use with it, if you did not configure Exchange, SMTP or SQL Server Agent to use for your mail that could be the reason for the error. Hope this helps.|||Thanks for your reply. I've double-checked all the configuration and everything appears fine. :(sqlWednesday, March 21, 2012
e-mail setup on SQL 2000 std
I am trying to set up e-mail notification, but when I open SQL Server Agent
(Properties) the Mail Profile is outgreyed, and I cannot choose any Mail
Profile.
I have Outlook 2002 (XP) installed on the machine, and I tried configuring a
profile with POP and IMAP account, but no mather what I do, the Mail Profile
is stil outgreyed. I don't have MAPI access from that machine, but according
to some books I refered to it shouldn't be a must.
As I can see, either it should be a MAPI, or I am missing something that
should be installed on SQL server, a component or something like that.
Any ideas?
Thanx in advance,
Zoran
YOu have t configure the EMail inBox for the service Account SQL Server
Agent is running on. If this is confugured you will be able to see the
Profile. Anyway, if you want to use another program not relying on MAPI, try
the SMTP_Sendmail which is free of charge :-)

Aaron, thanx!
I checked the link you sent me, and I understood that I should be logging on
with SQL service account.
Once I did that, I could configure the whole thing!
Thanx again!
