Embedding plug-ins in Reports
I am trying to figure out the way to embed a plug-in (Chime for Windows)
into my report, so that I can display a certain object from a database, that
is stored there as a string. This Chime plug-in would read the input string
and convert it to video display.
This embedding is easily done in simple HTML:
<embed type='chemical/x-mdl-molfile' display2d=true width=200 height=200
hlabels2d='terminalhetero' structure= [encrypted string from the database
follows]>
I am wondering is there a way to do such embedding straight into my report
by using the report designer features or by modifying an RDL file for my
report?
Thank you.

That would be an exiting idea.
Thanks in advance.

If I am able to place my <embed...> string somewhere in my report and when the report is rendered as HTML this string is interpreted as an HTML tag, this would be awesome! So far I experimented with displaying <embed...> string in one of my textboxes, but HTML renderer for report obviously interprets my string as a text not as a tag, so instead of seeing plug-in in action I just see the text of my string.
Probably another approach would be to embed an HTML in a report.
That would also be an exiting idea.
I would appreciate any help on this.
Thanks in advance!
Anton.Reporting Services does not support embedded HTML or object tags. The only way you could do this is to post-process the resulting output.|||

Embedded PDF and Excel Files
would like to display them in a custom web application. When working
with the ReportViewer control, I can easily show reports. I can't
figure out the process on how to show a PDF to a user. In particular,
if the user selects a PDF ( I can check the MIMETYPE), then, how do I
get the file from Report Server so I can stream it to the user?On Oct 10, 3:21 pm, "goo...@.landy.net" <goo...@.landy.net> wrote:

If you create a report that has the same format and output as the PDF
and Excel files, you could call the report and automatically render it
to PDF or Excel with a download prompt via URL. Here are a couple
examples.
http://ServerX/reportserver?/SomeDirectory/ReportName&rs:Command=Render&Param1=SomeValue&rs:Format=PDF
-or-
http://ServerX/reportserver?/SomeDirectory/ReportName&rs:Command=Render&Param1=SomeValue&rs:Format=Excel
Here's the URL format:
http://<ServerName>/reportserver?/<Directory>/<ReportName>&rs:Command=Render&<ParameterName>=<ParameterValue>&rs:Format=<PDF/CSV/XML/Excel/MHTML>
Hope this helps.

These are generic PDF files, not based on a report so they cannot be
rendered. We are using Reporting Services to provide security not
only to reports, but also some ancillary PDF and Excel files.|||Where does an uploaded pdf get stored'
Our uploaded pdf changes every week and rather than reupload everytime I was
hoping we could just save changes to the location it was uploaded to.

Embedded images based on a boolean
I'm making a table, and based on a variable in a specific row, I want to display one of two embedded images, icon_good or icon_bad. I'm currently using IIf (Fields!IsCompleted.Value, icon_good, icon_bad) as BackgroundImage.Value, but it gives me errors, and the type field refuses to fill itself in no matter what. I've tried google searching and searching here on the forums, and I can find info about embedding images, but not how to selectively show them. Hopefully this is just a simple trick and I'll be able to get some quick help here.
Thanks in advance

Is the image showing up as a red x?
have you right-clicked on the image and looked at the properties?
What is the url of the imbedded image?|||The image is showing up as a box (there is not a red x). When I right-click

So even though the image is 'embedded' we're thinking that it is also stored
in the database. Would that happen when the report is deployed to the
reportserver or when the rdl is uploaded?

file in Windows Explorer, Open With... > Internet Explorer)? If not, then it
may have something to do with the colour palette settings used in the image
itself.
We had exactly the same problem with an image appearing OK in the designer &
when exported to PDF/Excel, but not appearing in Report Manager. We got one
of our design guys here to fix the image so it was using the RGB colour
palette (don't know the technical process for it, I'm a DBA here), tried with
the new copy of the image, and hey presto! It worked.
Hope this helps.

There are several differences in the way that Artisan and Enterprise
Manager enumerate the list of DBs-
Enterprise Manager runs 'exec sp_MSdbuseraccess N'db', N'%'' to get a list,
and Artisan runs 'SELECT name, status,' ',CONVERT(char(10),crdate,101)+'
'+SUBSTRING(CONVERT(char(20),crdate,0),1
3,7) FROM master.dbo.sysdatabases
ORDER BY 1'
There important diff here is permissions. To test, run exec
sp_MSdbuseraccess N'db', N'% in Query Analyzer as the same user you connect
using EM. I am guessing that the list will be short the same way EM is. Then
you need to fix your permissions.
Let me know if that does not help.

EM slows windows
windows either to refresh very slowly or not at all. (I
may get a border with some of the display) I can't
navigate to any window completely until I shut down EM.
SQL 2000 running on Win2k.
Thanks.
One possibility is that you have ODBC tracing turned on. You
can check by going to Administrative Tools and then to the
ODBC Data Source Administrator. Click on the Tracing tab. If
caption on the command button says "Stop Tracing Now", click
that button. That will turn off ODBC tracing.

reopen it to see the table. When I closes it, EM asks me if I want to save
this new table. Is this normal?

How are you refreshing the display in SQL EM? You need to right-click on
the Tables item and select the Refresh option.
David Gugick
Imceda Software
www.imceda.com|||Hi,
There are many places that have Refresh option. I.e. under Action menu,
under database node and under the Tables item. The one under database node
does not work. The other two work. So I must have used the one under
database node.
Thanks for your help.

EM does not display Login Name
After adding Domain users to a database I get the situation where some
display in the "Users" section without a Login Name.
The users still function correctly, but some have Login Names and some
don't. Another note is that we have Production and Test servers on differen
t
boxes and a user can display different ways on each.
So, my question is, why does this happen? And more importantly, is there
some subtle problem behind the scenes that means I can't just ignore this
symptom?
Thanks,
Simon.
P.S. For example:
Name Login Name Database Access
---
User1 Domain\U1 Permit
User2 Permit
User3 Domain\U3 Permit
^- no login name for Domain\U2Simon wrote:

Simon,
we are encountering the same effect, when I do a RESTORE from a Database Bac
kup
from a Server which is not in the Windows Domain. I suppose it has something
to
do with an orphaned User SID.
I suppose when you enter
use mydb
sp_helpuser
you get NULL in the Login column.
Suggestion: Use a script with 'sp_dropuser' resp. 'sp_revokedbaccess' and 'g
rantdbaccess' to delete and rebuild the
user(s).
If the DB owner user dbo is also void, use 'sp_changedbowner' to reassign it
.
Joachim|||Hi Joachim,
Yes, sp_helpuser does return null. However, we are using a script with the
mentioned sp's to add users to this database. Way the app works is by a use
r
entering details passed through to the script (sp). Some work, some don't.
We have two machines (Prod & Test) and the results can differ. UserA might
be fine on Prod but not on Test, UserB might befine on Test but not on Prod.
Repeatedly dropping and adding the user gets consistent results on each
machine, whether that be by script, Query Analyser, Enterprise Manager. I
can spot no common denominator, and have found no way to make a "nulling"
user not-null.
Only other thing that I can think worth mentioning: at the Security | Logins
level we have added "Domain\All Users" to grant all users server access.
Database access is granted on a user by user basis (via the script mentioned
earlier.)

matching record in the syslogins table in the master
database. The syslogins table and the sysusers table will be
joined on sid. If no matching record is found in syslogins
by sid, then the login name is null and nothing will display
for Login Name in Enterprise Manager.

EM and QA displays different format for a date field
I have a datetime field with a value '1/1/02'. EM display it as 1/1/02 But
Query Analyzer displays it as 2002-01-01 00:00:00.000 (I used SELECT * FROM
Table1)
So in Query Analyzer, I can't tell the fomat of it. I just wonder if your
PC does the same.
Thanks. You have a problem under standing of what a data value is and how it is
stored. It is actually just stored as numeric value, denoting offsets from
some time in the reasonably distant past. Format is based on the user. QA
uses a standard value, mostly because when you are using QA the goal is
usually to see ALL of the data.
Enterprise manager is probably using your system settings. When you
actually use the data, you can format it as you wish.

Different clients display things differently, with the possible
excepting of strings made up of printable ASCII with codes
from 32 to 127.
If you want the datetime displayed in a particular format, I'd
suggest you select CONVERT(varchar(40),yourDatetimeColumn,X
XXX),
where XXXX is the appropriate SQL Server format code (see the
Books Online article CAST and CONVERT).
If you do this, you won't be able to "edit" the datetime values
in Enterprise Manager, but that's not a good idea anyway. Better
to make changes programmatically with UPDATE or INSERT
statements.

If I am understanding you correctly, you should be able to include an
'if' statement as the expression for the cell/column you want to show
zero. Something like this should work:
=iif(Fields!Sales.Value is nothing or Len(CStr(Fields!Sales.Value)) <
1, 0, Fields!Sales.Value)
This basically says: if Sales is null/blank, return 0, else return the
Sales value.
Hope this helps.

in my detail Row i have
Region Sales
=count(Fields!Region.Value) =SUM(Fields!Sales.Value)
i have 4 regions 1-4 what i want is it to show regions 1-4 even when
no sales have been done for that day. I have tried the above but it
doesnt seem to work and just returns the same value for the 2 regions
that have done sales and nothing for the 2 that have not.
i have used different variations of below in the column expression and
the detail expression
=iif(count(Fields!ARN.Value) is nothing or Len(CStr(count(Fields!
ARN.Value))) <
1, 0, Fields!ARN.Value)
Please can you point out where im going wrong?
Many Many thanks in advance
